LISTSERVES

Listserves are a way for people with common interests to exchange useful information via email -- a kind of email discussion group. When you or another member of a listserve sends a message, all the members of the listserve receive it. The listserves below are particularly useful to watershed groups, however, each one has a different purpose. The descriptions below can help you decide which listserve(s) will best meet your needs.

The Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission has developed NewsNet, a monthly email newsletter designed to bring subscribers information and opinions on aspects of natural resource management in western Washington. For more information and to subscribe visit the website above.

The Global Fish listserve is designed to promote discussion within the global fishing community. This is an informal without affiliation, but one that was inspired by the goals and objectives of fishing men and women around the world. To subscribe send an email to global-fish-request@interchange.ubc.ca. Leave the subject line of your message blank. In the body of your message type: subscribe.

The Volunteer-Monitor listserve is for people who are involved in volunteer monitoring and/or restoration projects. If you have the need for volunteers to help with a monitoring or restoration project this is the place to post an Action Alert! The listserve will also notify you about the upcoming online data bank at the University of Washington where users will be able to report and retrieve data, information, and news items. To subscribe simply go to the link above and follow the online instructions.

DISCUSSION BOARDS

Discussion Boards, unlike Listserves, are fixed pieces of electronic mail posted by anyone with web access to a "bulletin board" where others can read and respond. Users of a discussion board are not notified of postings or responses, however, this format makes it very easy to follow the discussion on a specific topic.

The Watershed Chat, hosted by the Upper Merced River Watershed Council and the Mariposa County RCD, is a forum for all watershed coordinators to ask questions and share information and ideas. Go to the website above and click on "Watershed Chat".

Columbia River Conversations is a great place to discuss with others the many issues influencing Oregon's Columbia River Basin.

The Global Fisheries Discussion (GFD) webpage was created to foster global communication between working fishing men and women and coastal communities.

The CALFED Watershed Program provides a way for you to post or read information about upcoming watershed events, success stories, funding opportunities, and watershed legislation in California. To post information, click on Discussion Board and follow the online instructions for New Users. Otherwise sign on as a guest and read all the postings to the discussion board. This discussion board allows you to mark the postings you have read, search for specific postings, and lets you know who is currently using the discussion board.
